Hello! I am Ailene Cantelmi with the Education and Outreach Department at the ACCME. I want to take a few minutes to introduce you to a strategic planning tool titled “Positioning Your CME Program for Organizational Impact.” I will also be your facilitator through the video tutorials developed to support your use of this strategic planning tool.
The purpose of this strategic planning tool is to assist you in developing strategies to improve your CME Program’s current or potential impact on the institutional goals of your organization. You can go through this process by yourself or with others involved in your CME program.
The tool is comprised of three different exercises. Exercise 1 is a Self-Assessment exercise, which has been developed to get you thinking about how your organization engages in the environment around you. You will begin with this exercise and then return to it again at the very end of this process. Exercise 2, Mapping Your Organizational Positioning and Goals, is broken out into three separate steps that can be completed all at once or over time, depending on your needs and resources. The video tutorials that you will see on the Web page for the strategic planning tool support the steps in Exercise 2. Finally, Exercise 3, Tactical Approaches, is designed to get you to think specifically about strategies that you either currently use or could use in the future to plan and implement CME activities as well as what challenges you might face along the way.
In order to participate in these exercises, you will need the following materials, which are also listed on the Web page for this strategic planning tool:
- First, you will need to print the worksheet. We have formatted this worksheet to be printed two different ways; you can either print the entire worksheet double-sided on one 11x17 piece of paper so that it looks like this or you can print the individual pages on four 8.5x11 sheets of paper so that it looks like this. There is a link on this Web page for each of these options.
- Next, you will need to have a copy of your organizational mission statement for each person participating. You will refer to your organizational mission statement in the first step of Exercise 2.
- You will also need a copy of your CME Program mission statement, if it is different than organizational mission statement, for each participant. You will refer to the CME Program mission statement in second step of Exercise 2.
- Finally, if you are utilizing the video tutorials for Exercise 2, you will need to have a computer and/or projector with Internet access available. Or you may access printed instructions on this Web page.
Once you have all of your materials together, you’re ready to get started! You will find the instructions to begin Exercise 1 and then continue on through Exercises 2 and 3 on the Web page below this video introduction.
Thank you so much for joining us for this educational activity. After you’ve completed the exercises, please feel free to provide your feedback to us using the link on this Web page.
